Elena Crawls
ADJUSTMENT ALLOWS 13 MONTH OLD TO CRAWL!
Ellena’s mom, who had not been in for an adjustment for 6 months, came in for help with a nasty headache. When I inquired about the health of her baby girl, a worried look came across her face. Apparently, her 13 month old daughter, Ellena, was not crawling and would not push off with her feet when held up so that her feet could touch the floor. Rather, she would consistently hold her thighs horizontally in the air with her hips flexed 90 degrees.
I told the mother of a story I had heard from a chiropractor at a
Pediatrics seminar a few years ago. This chiropractor had twins. While the boy proceeded to sit up, crawl and walk on schedule, the girl had never done any of those things. The pediatrician told the chiropractor father that the daughter had CP. Refusing to accept the diagnosis, the father took the child to a chiropractor who specialized in kids. That D.C. felt that the child's occiput (bone at the base of the skull where it meets the neck) had slid forward, compressing the spinal cord. After being adjusted and within a few weeks, the twin girl sat up, then crawled and then walked! She is now a normal girl.
After telling this story, Ellena’s mom explained that the baby had fallen hitting the back of her head when she was 5 weeks old. The baby had landed flat on her back and the base of her skull had struck a flat river rock. Ellena’s mom, concerned that the injury could have serious consequences, took her to the pediatrician who found nothing wrong at the time. But at age 13 months Ellena was still not crawling, the pediatrician suggested that if she were still not walking in another month that she should be evaluated for Cerebral Palsy.
At my encouragement, the worried mother brought her 13 month old girl in a few days later. On her second visit, I adjusted Ellena with a very light activator adjustment to her occiput and tailbone and then held the baby upside down for about 10 seconds to decompress the spine. The mother took the baby home and set her on the floor. She immediately began happily crawling all over the house!
Ellena is now walking all over, getting into the kinds of things that all toddlers do! Can you imagine if Ellenas had never been adjusted? PLEASE have your kids checked for subluxation periodically!
